Week 62: Ice cream miracle and contacting

Hoi Iedereen!!

This week we did a lot of contacting and had a lot of really good, random encounters with people! One miracle happened yesterday. It was really hot, and all day we’d heard the ice cream truck, just wishing that it wasn’tΒ Sunday! We were biking home from a member’s house when we saw an investigator and her daughter! We talked to them for a second and they invited us in to teach a lesson. THEN, they gave us ICE CREAM!!!! This is a testimony to me that God answers prayers, even if it’s just a silent pleading for ice cream on a hot, sabbath day πŸ™‚
We’ve been trying some new contacting methods out this week. One of them is called ‘picture contacting’. We printed off a bunch of pictures of famous people (queen of england, michael jackson, nelson mandelen, etc) and a picture of jesus. Then, we ask random people on the street if they know who these people are and what they think of them. The last picture is always a picture of jesus πŸ™‚ Kind of sneaky, but it works! We had a lot of great conversations with people and were able to bear our testimony! It was a really fun way to contact people at the market this week!
Yesterday at church we sang my favorite hymn “How Firm a Foundations” (‘O, vast als een rotssteen’ in dutch). When we started singing the 3rd verse the Spirit just hit me and I was kind of getting emotional! (which I never do!) I invite you all to read it! I know that God is always there for us and will never leave us alone! No matter our situation or what we’ve done He loves us! The Spirit really testified that to me yesterday!
I don’t have tons of time! But I love you all! Good luck to everyone who is starting school!

Pictures:
.Boat tour of Gent last week for Zone Pday! We are going back today and touring the castle!
.We saw this angry station of the angel gabriel on the tour. I thought it kind of looked like an angry angel moroni, coming down from the temple ready to destroy the wicked!
.At the stake picnic with Isabelle! They had a cute little farm there as well!
.A video of isabelle feeding the chickens! I read the sign outloud that said “do not feed the animals” and she was like “yeah, but I don’t really understand dutch very well!” Dutch is her second language, so she ‘can’t always understand’ all the time πŸ™‚ Anyway, that’s why we’re all laughing πŸ™‚

. This is the weekly video zr. olsen makes to send to her family! It’s funny because right in the middle talking about ‘unworthy creatures’ we got contacted by this old lady. the movie cuts off right as she asks if we’re mormons lol πŸ™‚ It was a good contact though!

Week 61: New Investigators!

Hello everyone!

This week was pretty good! We found a couple of new investigators! One was a lady the other sisters had met on the door. They had given her a Book of Mormon and we went back to follow up. She ended up making an appointment with us, so we’ll go back next week! She has a couple of kids, so we might get to teach a family again! We met another man through the referral system. He requested a missionary visit. We called and made an appointment with him last week. When we showed up to the address, it was a drum shop! We were a little worried, thinking there might have been a misunderstanding and maybe he thought we were there to buy drums? Luckily that wasn’t the case! He ended up being really religious! We shared the restoration with him, in this drum shop, and the Spirit was sooo strong! Especially when we shared the 1st vision. It was an incredible experience!
We met an incredible less active woman this week through our investigator [name withheld]. She’s great! She can’t come to church because of her health, but she’s sooo excited about missionary work! She talks to everyone about the church and today she’s going to invite her friend to meet with the missionaries (us!). We are so excited to work with her more. The members of this ward are so missionary minded and so excited to help with the work!
All in all this week was great! My cold is starting to clear up and me and Zr. Olsen are doing great! We’ve finally started to get a handle on the public transportation, which has been a huge blessing! I am so excited to be a part of this work here! I know that God is so present in our lives, even if we don’t always notice it. I know that it’s only through Christ and His gospel that we can truly find happiness in our lives, even during the hard times!
I love you all! Good luck starting school again this week!

.Last week for pday we went to Antwerpen and walked around the centrum! We were able to find Zr. Olsen some good, comfortable proselyting shoes that don’t hurt her feet. Success!
. Zr. Abbott biking through Lokeren! We had an incredible exchange together this week! It was so much fun to knock doors again, just like the good old days in Breda! She is a great missionary (and mom:) and I’ll be sad to see her go in a couple of weeks!

Week 60: Er gaat niets boven Kermis :)

title:Β There is nothing above the fair

Hooi Iedereen!!

Here is a quick rundown of the wonderen en grappjes from our week:
Wonderen:
.This week we got to bike…a ton! We biked one day from Lokeren to Eksaarde, then Eksaarde to Zele, then Zele to Lokeren to Waasmunster! (you’ll have to look on google maps). It was a crazy adventure through the drizzling rain! But the miracle was that we were miraculously on time for all of our appointments! We really shouldn’t have been, with how much we got lost, but we were! Plus, biking so much is always a miracle for me πŸ™‚ I love it!
.We had an incredible appointment with a woman found langs de deur last night. She is a single mom who is searching for the truth!! She LOVES the book of mormon and wants to be baptized!!! She’s wants to take it slow, but she is excited to learn more! She also fed us dinner spontaneously, which was great πŸ™‚ They are such a cute family!
.Zr. Olsen gave out her first book of mormon this week!!! It was definitely a ‘proud mama moment’ watching her hand over a book of mormon to a lady on the bus πŸ™‚ The woman was very enthusiastic to read it as well! What a great experience for her πŸ™‚
.We had interviews with the Bunnells this week, which is always a great part of the transfer!
.I got to play the piano in Primary last second yesterday! I LOOVE doing this! I love being able to serve in this way πŸ™‚
Grappjes:
.Our investigator, [name withheld], who is on baptismal date, thought she had to throw away all her candles, decorative animal statues, and christmas tree! She thought it was against our religion! We told her that as long as she doesn’t worship it, that it’s fine. I’m glad she asked about it though, otherwise that would have been a sad christmas next year!
. So, funny thing about the old lady from the bus. She sat down by us, read our tags, and was like “Wow! Real Zusters! You just don’t see that in young people these days! Splendid! Splendid!” Haha, I think she thought we were nuns….You wouldn’t believe how many people have asked me that on my mission!
. The zone leaders told us that it was President Bunnell’s birthday yesterday. So we texted him ‘happy birthday’, only to find out that it’s actually December 12πŸ™‚ Veeeery funny zone leaders! President Bunnell got a good laugh out of it though!
.I taught Zr. Olsen how to bike contact this week! Oh man, always awkward… buuut we gave away some ‘i love my family’ stickers doing it! (bike contacting is where you literally jump off/pull up next to someone on your bike and start talking to them. People are always kind of terrified/confused, but it has been known to work! The helmet makes it even better:)
.We have been assigned as visiting teachers in our ward! There aren’t enough abled bodied women to do it in the ward (everyone is like 50 or older), so they asked us! Kind of random, but great!
Overall our week was great! We had some great dinner appointments with members and are really starting to build relationships with them! It is an incredible, missionary minded ward! I am excited to be serving here with Zr. Olsen and working with the people we are πŸ™‚ There truly are prepared people EVERYWHERE! If we pray for opportunities and follow the Spirit, we will be lead to these missionary opportunites. I have definitely gained a Β testimony of that on my mission!
Ik hou van jullie!

.Kermis! It was crazy and fun while it lasted, but we’re glad to have our quiet little Lokeren back πŸ™‚
.Check out this ‘Magnum Mangum’ typo! Toeval bestaat niet!!! (Coincidence does not exist)
.The garbage and aftermath of Kermis (shoutout to Wesley!)
.We rode this ride on monday called the ‘body shaker’ Nothin’ like a sketchy kermis ride run by gypsies!
.Fun optical illusion at the mall!

.We’re literally just eating our way through Belgium! Belgian chocolate covered gelatto was just too tempting πŸ™‚

Week 59: The Kermis(carnival) is here!

Hey Everyone!!!
This week was another adventure here in Belgium! We ate lots of good food (waffels, pastries, ice cream) and had some great appointments! Here is a quick run down of the wonderen en grappjes from the week!
Wonderen:
.This week I got to go to MLC! It was so wonderful to see old companions and friends! It was definitely a little tender mercy for me this week πŸ™‚
.We met with a recent convert (8yrs old) and her mom (investigating) this week. She is sooo cute and is so excited to read her scriptures and learn more about the gospel! It was really fun to teach someone so young! Afterwards she wanted us to jump on her trampoline with her πŸ™‚ I’m glad I was wearing my bike shorts! It was a really fun way to end a lesson πŸ™‚
.Zr. Olsen was AMAZING in our lesson with [an investigator]! She really taught most of the lesson! He was suuuper touched by her testimony and said he feels like she was sent there for him! This was an answer to our prayers! I’m so happy that my greenie had this incredible experience!
.We got to bike for 45 minutes to an appointment, which was amazing! I’ve missed biking…a lot. This was definitely a miracle for our week!
.We’ve had to run for a lot of buses and trains this week, but by some miracle we’ve made EVERY SINGLE ONE! #zegeningen
Grappjes:
.We were on our way to deliver some cookies to investigators when Zr. Olsen got into an epic bike crash! Don’t worry, she was fine. But the cookies were everywhere!!! It was really dramatic watching her lose control of the bike and go crashing into the wall. Oh my mother heart! But, we all had a good laugh about it πŸ™‚ Sadly, the cookies did not make it out alive 😦
I am so excited to be serving the Lord! I know that this is His work and that there are people everywhere who are prepared to hear this gospel! My mission has brought me so much joy and there is literally no place I’d rather be!
